The article examines the origins and key stages of the genesis of hospital pedagogy in Russia and abroad. The characteristic features of the development and formation of hospital pedagogy in connection with the evolution, formation and further differentiation of pediatric and pedagogical science are highlighted and described. Attention is paid to the specifics of domestic experience in organizing hospital education for children with long-term treatment in different historical periods. The paper reflects the issues of formation and development of hospital pedagogy, formation of hospital education models, and peculiarities of its organization on the example of Russia and other countries. A historical review of the legal and regulatory documents is given. The idea of the emergence of different models of hospital pedagogy, as well as the dependence of these models on the characteristics of one or another type of disease is substantiated.
