FORMATION OF EDUCATIONAL INDEPENDENCE OF FRESHMEN USING INTERACTIVE TEACHING METHODS

The article studies the possibilities of using interactive teaching methods as an aid in developing educational independence of freshmen. Educational independence of students is considered as an ability for independent activity, fulfilled in a certain social situation of development, and for independent thinking carried out in specific conditions of educational environment of a university. In the theoretical part of the study psychological foundations for the formation of students’ educational independence such as subjective position, non-adaptive activity and goal orientation, were singled out. The main deficits of freshmen’s readiness for studying at a university are defined. Traditionally universities do not solve this problem expecting that students will manage to successfully adapt to new conditions of studying themselves. Interactive teaching methods are studied as an aid in developing educational independence of students. The influence of interactive teaching methods on development of educational independence of freshmen was approbated during the pilot study on the basis of the training course «Educational Design and Pedagogical Self-Examination», which is built with the focus on the initiative, organized and controlled learning activities of students. In the learning process, students work in intersubjective interaction: they solve cases, highlight problems, discuss hypotheses, organize brainstorming sessions, write creative papers, and develop collaborative projects. The empirical data was obtained by questioning the students who participated in the study at the stages before and after the training sessions in this discipline. As a result of the study, it was concluded that the effectiveness of interactive teaching methods for the formation of educational independence of students at the initial stage of training at the university.
